Quick answer

Small or medium dog? Try The Evelyn (under 40 pounds), The Beekman (up to 35) or the Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels (up to 50). Big dog? The Peninsula New York takes dogs up to 65 pounds. These pet friendly hotels in Manhattan all publish their rules, but rules shift, so ask about weight, pet count and fees before you pay.

The Evelyn, in NoMad

One dog per room, under 40 pounds. The hotel’s pages show a one-time cleaning fee of about $150 to $159. Confirm the amount. A paw package, with a bowl, bed, toy and treats, can lower it. Every guest also pays a nightly facility fee. Good for a small dog and a Midtown South base. See how the area compares in our neighborhoods guide.

The Beekman, in the Financial District

The Beekman’s own FAQ says dogs up to 35 pounds are welcome with no pet fee. Every guest does pay a separate destination fee, about $45.90 a night when we checked. Best if your dog does well in a quiet historic lobby. For older New York hotels, read our historic hotels guide.

The Peninsula New York, on Fifth Avenue

One dog or cat per room, up to 65 pounds, for $150 a stay. Pets can’t go into the restaurants, the spa or the fitness center. Not many luxury hotels in the city take a dog that big. Compare it with other Midtown stays on our hotel map.

More pet friendly hotels in New York City

The Langham, Fifth Avenue allows dogs of 20 pounds or less for $250 per stay, and an extra sanitation fee may apply. Dogs must stay on a leash in public areas, can’t be left alone in the room and can’t go into the food and beverage outlets.

Hyatt Place New York/Midtown-South and Hyatt House New York/Chelsea both take dogs up to 50 pounds. Up to two dogs are allowed per room, with a combined limit of 75 pounds. The pet fee is $100 for stays of 1 to 6 nights and $200 for longer ones. Both are good picks if you want a bigger dog and a lower fee than the luxury hotels.

The Jane and The Library Hotel: skip both

Neither hotel takes pets. The Library Hotel’s own FAQ says pets are not allowed, though service animals are welcome. The Jane, in the West Village, is listed as not allowing pets on Expedia, Hotels.com and Trip.com. If you are bringing a dog, book one of the hotels above instead.

Five questions to ask

What’s the weight limit? How many pets per room? What’s the fee, per night or per stay? Can the dog stay alone in the room? Can it go in the lobby, bar or restaurant? Get every answer in writing. Pet fees stack up, so see our cheaper hotel tips.

Walking your dog

Your hotel can probably point you to a nearby park. Central Park allows dogs off leash at set hours in marked areas. Check the Conservancy or NYC Parks site first. Pack waste bags. Keep the leash short on sidewalks. And watch the weather. Our trip planner has room for your pet gear. For more, see our NYC with a dog guide.
