Hotels With a Pool in NYC: Indoor, Rooftop and Seasonal

Hotels with a pool in NYC are rare. Space is too expensive. But a handful of Manhattan hotels have one, from indoor lap pools in luxury spas to rooftop pools with skyline views.

Quick answer

Only a small number of Manhattan hotels have a pool. For a year-round indoor pool, look at The Peninsula, Park Hyatt, Equinox Hotel, Four Seasons Downtown, The Greenwich Hotel and Aman New York. For a rooftop pool in summer, look at Gansevoort Meatpacking, The Dominick, ModernHaus SoHo and Margaritaville Resort Times Square. Always check hours and access rules.

Why so few NYC hotels have a pool

In Manhattan, every square foot is worth a fortune. A pool takes up a whole floor, needs heavy structure and costs a lot to run. So most hotels skip it. When a hotel does have one, it is usually either a luxury spa pool or a seasonal rooftop deck.

That means two things for you. First, a pool hotel will usually cost more. Second, read the rules. Some pools are adults only, some close in the evening, some are shared with a gym membership, and some rooftop pools turn into busy bars on summer weekends.

Year-round indoor pools: the luxury spas

The Peninsula New York at 700 Fifth Ave has a glass-roofed pool high up in the hotel’s spa, with views over Fifth Avenue. It is one of the best-known hotel pools in the city.

Park Hyatt New York at 153 W 57th St has an indoor pool on the 25th floor, near Carnegie Hall and Central Park. Aman New York at 730 Fifth Ave, in the old Crown Building, has a large indoor pool in its spa. Mandarin Oriental, New York at 80 Columbus Circle has a lap pool on the 36th floor with Hudson River views.

Indoor pools downtown and at Hudson Yards

Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown at 27 Barclay St has a long indoor pool, popular with families on weekends. The Greenwich Hotel at 377 Greenwich St in Tribeca has a candle-lit pool under the beams of a reassembled Japanese farmhouse. It is one of the most beautiful pools in the city.

Equinox Hotel at 33 Hudson Yards sits on top of a huge Equinox gym. Guests get an indoor saltwater pool, plus an outdoor pool deck in warm months. It is the pick for anyone who wants a serious workout on vacation.

Rooftop and seasonal pools

These are open roughly late spring to early fall, weather allowing. Hours and guest access change by season, so ask.

Gansevoort Meatpacking at 18 Ninth Ave has a rooftop pool with views up and down the Hudson. The Dominick at 246 Spring St in SoHo has an outdoor pool deck with a bar. ModernHaus SoHo at 27 Grand St has a rooftop pool and lounge with views toward downtown.

Margaritaville Resort Times Square at 560 Seventh Ave has a rooftop pool right in Midtown. It is a fun, casual pick for families who want a pool near the theaters.

Across the river in Brooklyn, The William Vale and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge also have rooftop pools, if you are open to staying outside Manhattan. See our rooftop bar hotels guide too.

Questions to ask before you book a pool hotel

Is the pool open during my dates? Many close for maintenance a few weeks a year.

Are kids allowed, and at what hours? Some spa pools have adult-only times.

Is there an extra fee? Most hotels include pool access in the room rate, but some charge for spa access, cabanas or weekend day passes.

Is it heated? Rooftop pools in May and September can be chilly. If the pool is the whole point of the trip, call the hotel. Our family hotels in NYC page has more kid-friendly picks.

No pool? Other ways to swim or relax

If the pool hotels are out of budget, you still have options. Many Manhattan hotels have a good gym and a spa with steam rooms, which can be enough after a long day of walking.

Some gyms and spas sell day passes, and a few hotels sell pool or cabana day passes in summer. In July and August, the city also runs free outdoor public pools, though they get busy and have strict rules, so check the NYC Parks website before you go.

And if the pool is the main event, think about timing. A rooftop pool is a big plus from June to August. In winter, only an indoor pool is worth paying extra for. Our summer in NYC hotels guide has more warm-weather tips.
