Hotels Near Manhattan School of Music: Morningside Heights Overview
Musicians, parents and audition candidates searching for hotels near manhattan school of music usually want a quiet base with simple transit. The school sits at 130 Claremont Avenue, at West 122nd Street, in Morningside Heights, a neighborhood that blends campus life, Riverside Park views and a handful of lodging choices.
Because the area has far fewer hotel rooms than Midtown Manhattan, many visitors compare staying nearby with staying farther south. This guide treats every address, schedule and policy as something to confirm directly with the school, the property and the MTA before you book anything in New York City.
Claremont Avenue and West 122nd Street: Finding the Campus
The main building stands on Claremont Avenue just north of the Barnard and Union Theological Seminary blocks, with Riverside Drive a short walk west. Audition days and recitals may use different doors, so ask the admissions or events office which entrance to use and what time to arrive.
Morningside Heights is hilly, and the walk between Broadway and Claremont Avenue climbs gently. Carry only what you need on performance days, and confirm accessible routes with the school if anyone in your party uses a wheelchair.
Subway Lines: The 1 Train at 116th Street and 125th Street
The 1 subway line runs along Broadway, with stops at 116th Street-Columbia University and 125th Street. From either station, expect a walk of roughly ten to fifteen minutes to Claremont Avenue, though times vary with pace and luggage. These are estimates, so test the route in a maps app.
The OMNY fare is about $3 per ride, which adds up over a multi-day audition trip. Weekend and overnight service changes happen on the 1 line, so check the MTA site the day before you travel.
Hotels Near Manhattan School of Music in Morningside Heights and Harlem
Lodging directly beside the school is limited. Visitors often look at small hotels and guesthouses along Broadway in Morningside Heights, the Upper West Side to the south and the Harlem blocks to the east. Hotel names and status change, so verify each address and recent guest reviews yourself.
A walking distance of fifteen to twenty minutes is a reasonable target if you want to avoid the subway entirely. Ask each front desk about quiet rooms, early check-in for audition mornings and whether staff can hold luggage if your recital ends after check-out time.
Columbia University Neighbors: Barnard, Teachers College and Riverside Church
The school shares its neighborhood with Columbia University, Barnard College, Teachers College and Riverside Church, so on graduation weekends, move-in days and major events, nearby rooms can sell out early. Check the academic calendars of neighboring institutions when you pick dates.
Cafes and casual restaurants cluster along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Opening hours vary, so keep several options saved and plan a simple meal before an audition.
Boutique Hotel and Luxury Hotel Options Farther South
If you prefer a boutique hotel, look at the Upper West Side and Hell’s Kitchen, then confirm availability. Near Lincoln Center, the Empire Hotel at 44 West 63rd Street is one name to research, and in Chelsea the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street is another. Confirm current status before relying on either.
A luxury hotel such as the Mandarin Oriental at 80 Columbus Circle offers a refined base but adds a longer subway ride north. The A, B, C, D and 1 lines meet at Columbus Circle, so the trip is direct, though you should confirm transfers and travel time for your own schedule.
2026 NYC Hotel Nightly Rates and Tax Math for Audition Weekends
Planning estimates for 2026 place budget hotel rooms at about $195 to $295 a night, mid-range rooms at $320 to $480 and luxury rooms at $650 and up. These tiers are estimates rather than quotes, and demand around auditions, graduations and holidays can push prices higher.
Tax is added to every night. New York City applies 14.75%.
